چکیده

In this paper the authors present a methodology to pursue parallel environmental transport computations on computing grids. A Natural Coordinate System (NCS) is introduced to transform the two-dimensional environmental transport problem into a series of onedimensional advection systems coupled with transverse and longitudinal diffusion. Then appropriate numerical methods are deployed to solve the transport problem at larger timesteps. Two kinds of computing grids are used: one is a Sun 220R Enterprise Cluster and the other is a nondedicated network of PCs. The experiments demonstrate the high scalablity of the model performance. The authors argue that the combination of the usage of the NCS and suitable numerical schemes is the reason for the inherent scalability of this model.

Parallel Sn Sweeps on Unstructured Grids: Algorithms for Prioritization, Grid Partitioning, and Cycle Detection

The method of discrete ordinates is commonly used to solve the Boltzmann transport equation. The solution in each ordinate direction is most efficiently computed by sweeping the radiation flux across the computational grid. For unstructured grids this poses many challenges, particularly when implemented on distributed-memory parallel machines where the grid geometry is spread across processors....

NOAA/EPA Symposium on Air Quality Modeling and its Applications, 20-21 Sept. 2005, Durham, North Carolina P1.54 Advection-Diffusion Equation on Unstructured Adaptive Grids

Discretizations based on unstructured grids have been widely used in other scientific disciplines for modeling problems bounded by complex geometries. Solution-adaptive techniques are relatively easy to implement on unstructured grids and in addition they provide a convenient way to model the multi-scale spanning nature of atmospheric flows. This paper describes the implementation of a higher-o...
